February

Plant cool-season annuals including pansies, snapdragons, petunias, stock, alyssum, Swiss chard, cabbage and kale.

Plant grapes, berries and fruit trees for this area.

Transplant any established trees and shrubs this month while dormant.

Plant cool-season vegetables like seed potatoes, onions, cabbage, cauliflower lettuce, carrots and more.

Dig and divide summer and fall perennials.

Prune rose by 50 to 70 percent to make the plant more full in the spring.

Make sure and spray dormant oil on all evergreen plants that are scale prone. This would include hollies, camellias, euonymus, fruit trees and more.

To prune nandinas, go to the base of the plant and prune out selective canes. This will make the plant bush out and be more compact.

Trim Asian jasmine and Mondo grass back now either with mower or weed eater.

Fertilize fescue and ryegrass with a high-nitrogen food.

Spray cool-season weed killer to eliminate broadleaf weeds.

Time to apply pre-emergent to prevent weeds from coming up!
